This Woman Crush Wednesday (WCW) we interview Simone Gillette, the mother of 3 active boys and the Managing Director of Toute Bagai Publishing Ltd. The company is the largest magazine publishing house in the English-speaking Caribbean and has garnered worldwide recognition for its low-key yet distinctive style, attention to detail, and passion for the craft.

This week, Simone tells us what her tips are for developing a fashion voice and signature style, why the little black dress never gets old and what is the “I-can’t do-without-it” item in her wardrobe.

Why is it so important to create your own personal style?
Everyone always wants to emulate someone else’s style and why should we, how utterly boring the world will be if everyone looked the same.  I believe it is it is important to just be you.  Your sense of style reflects your individuality and uniqueness.
What are the three things in your closet that you could never, ever get rid of?
  1. LBD (little black dress) – I have a few and the fact that I love anything black, branded or not it always does the trick.
  2. JEANS – What can I say? I’m just that kinda gal! Dress it up for a more formal do or dress it down, I can make it work for any occasion with rips and all.
  3. JEWELLERY – Accessorise, accessorise!  My life is hectic.  As a working wife and mother of yes 3 very active boys (big smile) and very little time in between, with the right jewellery you can transform any outfit easily from casual to formal from day to night. It’s the “I-can’t-do-without-it” item in any woman closet.
Whats your personal ultimate fashion risk that you’ve learned to take and love?
I posed nude while I was 8 months pregnant with jewellery draped all over.  I knew this was my last chance (it was my third child) and I wanted a reminder of what it was like and to celebrate the beauty of pregnancy. Of course they were all for my own personal viewing.
How would you advise someone to begin to identify their fashion voice and signature style?
You need to be comfortable in your own skin and I guess after a while I just know what I like and what suits me.  Take the time to reflect who you are as a person and find a place in your heart that is comforting and peaceful.  Sometimes its takes a while to find your sense of style, play around with it and find what works for you.
Where or from whom do you get your fashion inspiration from?
I don’t have a clue.  But I do know my husband would love to take all the credit for this as he loves shopping for me.
