What do you do when your client tells you that your next media launch must happen off the coast of Tobago on a slip of island that measures one square kilometre?
Well if you accustomed to the creative genius of Brian Mac Farlane, your next question is simply: “When?” Since 1995 Mango Media Caribbean has worked with Brian Mac Farlane on events like the Taste T&T and Tourism Park. While he took charge of the events’ design, our events team oversaw all the management systems. Subsequent to that we had helped the Mas man spearhead the media launch of two of his award winning Carnival bands.
But the launch of ‘Africa: Her People, Her Glory, Her Tears’ allowed us to do something that was different, fun, creative and measured.
Journalists were flown across to Tobago and then bussed to Pigeon Point where they enjoyed an outdoor breakfast, soaked in the sounds of the ocean and were dazzled by an a performance of dancers in elaborate costumes that hinted at what was to come. Journalists -among them was a team of international event planners who were on the island for a conference- were then asked to board glass bottom boats and taken to the island slip where masqueraders and tassa drummers emerged from their crouched positions to put on one of the most unique and picturesque launches ever staged in the history of band launches.
Journalists were enthralled and the precise execution Mango Media Caribbean’s media launch on behalf of Brian Mac Farlane garnered the lead story on all the broadcast news programmes as well as front page coverage in all the newspapers the subsequent day.
